An Approach to Living Longer and Living Well

Sage Vita is about an approach to life that favours living longer and living well by living wisely. The compensation for advancing age was always believed to be the advent of wisdom.

Our generation has passed through a sceptical age, questioning traditional beliefs and turning them on their head whenever that seemed appropriate. Most of us are not so presumptuous as to lay a claim on wisdom.

But there are some aspects of our lives where a claim on having become wiser is credible, and very much to our credit.

The advantages we’ve had, in education and the peace which has prevailed over most of the world since the last great conflagration, have made us appreciate an approach to life which is thoughtful and seeks serenity as one of its satisfactions. In that respect, most of us have grown wise as we have aged.

This disposes us to an enjoyment,  and to the useful application of the added years we have been given, in a way that was often not possible for our parents and grandparents. But some of the carefree attitude to life which characterized our youth and early adulthood is surely out of place. We know this because we are at least wise in that respect that we feel the difference in ourselves – in our bodies, the refinement of our tastes, the enjoyment of those values we have come to prize. Among them is the aptitude to live wisely – to consider and plan how we can maintain our capacity to make a difference in the world.

Taking Responsability

Taking responsibility Sage Vita is about taking responsibility – to live longer and well. The guidance and tips I have provided comprise an outline for devising your own Sage Vita. Filling in the details of your life plan is the next step, and for that you will need information. I have shown you, for example, an approach and the elements for developing an appropriate exercise program, but the precise exercises you can perform, at what rate, intensity and in what pattern are something you must find for yourself.

Taking responsibility for your health care, your physical well-being, your spiritual comfort requires that you understand what you are doing, the elements involved and the choices before you.

To accomplish that you will first need to “learn” how to be responsible for some aspects of life which you may have neglected. This is part of your lifelong learning – gathering the knowledge you need to make your own decision, based on the best advice and the broadest understanding you can achieve. One of the many ways in which we are is blessed is to have easier access to a range of information. The experts I have mentioned are invaluable, but educating yourself to make the right choices from the options they offer means the use of other tools. The internet is an extraordinary resource in that process. You can find useful advice and information on all the aspects of entering a wise life – a Sage Vita.

The problem is that there is too much information, some of which can lead you astray. There are some useful guidelines on how to evaluate the worth and credibility of information you obtain from different websites on the internet. I have assembled these on the Sage Vita website. You are welcome to consult these pages, which are regularly updated with new information, with links to reliable sources of information on all the aspects covered in this book. .

Sage Vita advice:

We are pioneers as far as longevity is concerned. It’s become a fact of life for many of us, who can count on an unprecedented span of years.

We are pioneers in a world of living longer lives, but also in a world where living well remains something to be achieved – the Sage Vita – when living to 100 is an option, but living well depends largely on the choices we make about how to live.

Past generations felt they were old in their 40s and thought it fortunate to live into their 70s.

Today, the ripe age of 70 is the new 50, the mere beginning of a mature life.
